Today in labor history, October 24, 1940:  The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938’s mandate of a 40-hour work week with time-and-a half overtime pay for hours of work beyond that goes into effect.

Remember: Alabama Senator Hugo Black w/ support of the AFL actually had a popular 30-hour workweek bill in front of Congress, but it had no support from FDR until it was watered down to its 40-hour form… Liberals gotta protect that Capitalism, yknow?
