“ I’m afraid to talk out loud, it’s kind of crappy here. I feel like an ant in an ant hill. They have a bunch of TVs all over the place, I could be sitting at home in my living room watching TV…It’s just a bunch of crap.

a Texan accurately describes Times Square. I hope Bloomberg cries over this.

She also nails one of the best things about NYC too:

They got a cute pigeon. I saw a cute pigeon… And the pigeons, I think the pigeons are actually from here, because they seem to have some purpose and know what they’re doing.

(although, I think her opinion on Niagara Falls is horseshit)

“ You know, Ray Kelly probably visits more mosques than an awful lot of people who believe in the faith that’s practiced there

My stupid fucking mayor.

Do I make a comment that illustrates how horrible this comment is from the “Yeah, because They Be Tapin” angle? Or the “That’s actually pretty fucking racist on top of Ray Kelly’s racist bullshit” angle? Or maybe just respond with “Yeah fucking right, Mr. fucking Mayor”?

Mr. Ratner said Thursday that the existing incentives for developments where half the units are priced for middle- and low-income tenants “don’t work for a high-rise building that’s union built.”

He added that he had “accepted the fact that we’re not going to get more subsidy.”

- buried towards the end of this piece in the WSJ on the Atlantic Yards (paltry) design choices is this nugget of Ratner being the typical piece of shit most of Brooklyn (and New York) has grown to know him as. As BrooklynSpeaks puts it:

The first part of Bruce Ratner’s shocking statement pits union workers against working families, and becomes truly appalling when one considers his project removed 171 units of occupied affordable housing from the Atlantic Yards footprint before beginning construction. It sounds like the families he displaced shouldn’t plan on coming back now.

BrooklynSpeaks also figures that Ratner is gearing up to battle the unions on labor costs to save as much of those subsidies as possible. That should go over well since we already know Ratner and Co. are fucking over the people on jobs. I wonder what alleged OWS supporter and heavy-hitting partner in the Atlantic Yards development Jay-Z thinks about all this? (no, I don’t. Fuck that guy)

atlantic yards project destruction - anvil chorus on Flickr.

A while ago, back when I used to live in Prospect Heights, I lived across the street from an empty lot which itself bordered an interesting building. I call it “interesting” because it had some of my favorite graffiti in the borough (HoodRich!) and one of the families that lived there kept a nice pigeon coop in the yard they had in the back. The backyard also had some of those old-school massive posts in the back yard that clotheslines were attached to. The people who lived here were just some of the many who were forced to leave their homes due to the eminent domain ruling that profited Bloomberg, Ratner, Jay-Z, Barclays, and other rich shitheads who continue to painfully mold Brooklyn into something perfectly, normally stupid. Hood Rich, indeed.

“ No right is absolute

- our fucking stupid mayor

I think it becomes obvious when the attempts at justification are put forward for the State’s violence/brutality and suppression, when Jean Quan or Bloomberg try to excuse the mountains of bullshit, you see how thin all the smoke and mirrors have gotten.
